The Oregon Club of Portland Awards

2010 Duck of the Year Award: Mark McGirr

Mark McGirr

The Duck of the Year Award is presented annually to an Oregon Club of Portland member in recognition of his or her exemplary and distinguished commitment, dedication and service to the Oregon Club of Portland and University of Oregon athletics January 1 through December 31 of the calendar year of the award. The Duck of the Year criteria includes meaningful and significant participation in Oregon Club membership recruitment; Oregon Club fund-raising activities; and all other Oregon club events, activities, and programs.

Mark has been an integral part of the Oregon Club of Portland since joining the Board in 1997. He has held many positions from treasurer to Board president to his current position as sponsorship chair. Mark, we thank you for your continued oversight and dedication to the Club and its stewardship. And over the years Atiyeh Bros. has donated enough Itty Bitty rugs to probably furnish a not so Itty Bitty house.

Thanks Mark for all you do and...Go Ducks!

Harold Taylor Lifetime Achievement Award: Don Ossey

Don Ossey

The Harold Taylor Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to an Oregon Club of Portland member in recognition of his or her exemplary and distinguished commitment, dedication and service to the Oregon Club of Portland and University of Oregon Athletics.

The Harold Taylor Lifetime Achievement Award criteria includes membership with the Oregon Club of Portland for at least 25 years, participation in a broad range of activities, the person is still living and has demonstrated continuous support over these 25 years.

Don Ossey has all of the above qualities in spades. We think he started with the Oregon Club shortly after middle school but we’re not sure. Don went through all the posts at the Club, including Secretary (1988), Treasurer (1989), Big Green Benefit Committee, Board President (1992), Duck of the year (2000) and we hear he was pretty handy flipping burgers at OCOP tailgaters back in the day. He helps us ring in our 20th year as co-chair with Mike Allen for the Golf Classic to be held Monday, June 6th.

Thanks Don for supporting the Club through all its stages and continuing to stay involved. Go Ducks!
