| Starting with cross country in the fall, indoor track & field in the winter and then the spring outdoor season, it was outstanding performance by Coach Vin Lananna’s teams and athletes.
In CROSS COUNTRY the men placed 2nd at the Pac-10’s and 6th at the NCAA’s. The women were 3rd at the Pac-10’s and 12th at the NCAA’s. Third-places from Luke Puskedra and Jordan Hasay highlighted Oregon’s 2010 NCAA Cross Country team finishes. Hasay was named the Pac-10 Cross Country athlete of the year. For the women, Hasay and Alex Kosinski were All Pac-10 selections and Kosinski was the women’s Pac-10 Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The men had four all-conference selections, Matt Centrowitz and Puskedra on the first team and A.J. Acosta and Danny Mercado on the second team.
In INDOOR TRACK Brianne Theisen and Jordan Hasay were recognized as national women’s indoor athletes of the year. The Duck women won the NCAA indoor title for the second straight year. The men did not enter a full team.
SPRING OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD at Hayward field was jumping. The men’s and women’s teams and individuals all had outstanding years. At the Pac-10’s both teams placed a winning first place. For the men it was a fifth straight team title while the women captured their third title in a row. At the NCAA’s the Duck Women’s Team placed second with the Men’s Team finishing at tenth.
NCAA champions Mathew Centrowitz (1,500), Melissa Gergel (pole vault) and Anne Kesselring (800) led a group of 27 Ducks named All-Americans. Among others who scored were English Gardner, Jordan Hasay (1,500 and 5,000), Mike Berry (400) , Elijah Greer (800), Luke Puskedra (10,000), A.J. Acosta (1,500), Steve Finley (steeplechase) and David Klech (decathlon). Klech, Hasay and Kesselring were named Academic All-Americans. |
