6-1. That's the record Justin Herbert earned in 2017. While the Oregon offense struggled mightily in his absence with a broken collarbone, the squad looked nearly unstoppable with Herbert at the helm.
While the bowl season remains ahead, 2018 watch lists are already in motion and NFL.com released their list of the Top 10 Heisman Trophy Candidates for 2018, which included Herbert. Not only is the sophomore listed in the top ten, he comes in at number three.
With a big game set to take place in less than two weeks, Herbert's stock heading into next year can rise that much more with an impressive performance against Boise State in the Las Vegas Bowl. Clearly the squad will want to give a nice sendoff to Royce Freeman, who is sure to have a big game, but as the clock winds down in Las Vegas, Oregon offense will no doubt transition from being Freeman's team to Herbert's team.
You can't predict the future, but you can look at stats, schedules and returning talent. The Ducks are primed for a big season next fall and the Ducks will be Herbert's team.
With another off-season of putting in the work, getting in synch with all of the big-time playmakers Oregon has, while getting stronger and faster, Herbert and the Oregon fanbase have every reason to believe Herbert will make a legit run at the Heisman Trophy.
