PAC-12 MEN'S BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT APPROACHING

It soon will be PAC-12 Mens Basketball Tournament time at the LAS VEGAS MGM Grand Garden Arena starting March 13 with the finals March 16. FOOTBALL RECRUITES: TALENT + CHARACTER = HIGH RATINGS

A top- 25 class , a last minute surprise---it was a typical football national signing day for Oregon. New Duck football coach Mark Helfrich conducted a “ world” tour with as many as 7 coaches together doing home visits in a “show of solidarity” pitch. SOFTBALL

The Softball start in early February means its almost time for the spring slate for Coach Mike White's 2013 Ducks. Coming off their second-ever world series trip, the Ducks celebrated one of their greatest seasons ever in 2012 with an overall 45-18 record and 13-9 in the tough Pac-12. The 2013 pre-season #6 ranked Duck's have a talented and deep roster for the demnding season which starts Thursday February 7 with 6 games in Arizona, followed by five contasts with strong opponents in Las Vegas, Palm Springs and Orlando. Duck fans can see Eugene games starting March 23 against Stanford followed by April home games against Utah, Arizona and Oregon State. 8 Pac-12 games will be carried on the Pac-12 Television network. Portland fans will be treated to a Portland State doubleheader at 4 pm here in the City of Roses.

WOMEN'S SOCCER

Incoming Women's soccer coach Kat Mertz was greeted with high expectations. She has had 5 positions as either an assistant or head coach at the college level, including positions with UNLV, Texas and UCLA and most recently as head coach at Saint Louis University. Her record includes 9 of 14 years with fall apperances in the NCAA Tournement.

LACROSSE

Coach Jen Larsen Beck leads 18 returning players from the 2012 team that won the MPSF regular season and tournament championships and advanced to the NCAA Tournament with a 14-5 overall record and a perfect 7-0 in conference play. The 2013 Ducks open their season on Feb. 23 at home against Dartmouth and in early April meet SC and California at Pape Field and Stanford at Palo Alto, folllowed by the league Championships May 2-4 in Eugene.

BASEBALL NOTES

Capping an outstanding 2012 (46-18) , a NCAA Supper Regional appearance and a #11 national ranking George Horton was awarded the 7th annual Field Turf Baseball Coach of the.Year for 2012. Horton returns to lead the Ducks into the 2013 season with a roster loaded with eleven returning veterans , four starting pitchers and an All-American closer. Oregon is ranked sixth in the 2013 Collegiate Baseball preseason poll. The Ducks start the season in Hawaii February 15.

A MAGICAL DUCK VOLLEYBALL SEASON WITH 30-5 RECORD AND NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL FOUR RUNNER-UP

Coach Jim Moore and his team won both a NCAA sub regional and regional, won in the elete eight and won an opening final four victory over top-rated Penn State. Portlands Liz Brenner (Jesuit) was named on the All-American Team, as was Lauren Plum (California)along with Senior Alaina Bergsma (Arizona) being named Player of the Year by the National Volleyball Coaches Association.

Congratulations to Coach Jim Moore and the Oregon Volleyball Team for a strong second place in the nation’s toughest conference, the Pac-12, and a regular season record of 25-4 16-4 and the #5 seed at the NCAA Tournament. The Ducks will host the first and second rounds at the Mathew Knight Arena, opening Friday night November 30 against Big Sky Champion Northern Colorado 24-10 14-6. The winner advances to the second round Saturday December 1.

FOR VOLLEYBALL IT'S DOUBLE NINES

With the pre-conference schedule completed, Volleyball Coach Jim Moore finds his team nationally ranked number nine with a record of nine wins and no losses. The Pac-12 has five teams nationally ranked in the top 10. The Ducks open their Pac-12 season Wednesday, September 19 at 7 PM against OSU, televised on the Pac-12 network. This is also the first event of The Civil War Series.

THE 2012 OLYMPIC TRIALS WERE A SMASH SUCCESS AT EUGENE

The 2012 Olympic Trials were a smash success at Eugene’s historic Hayward Field. Seven UO Alumni, led by Ashton Eaton and Galen Rupp, won their spots on the American Team. The Trials set an attendance record of 173,153 with the daily crowds from 20,936 to 22,602. Vin Lananna coined the term “Best Meet Ever” with the Hayward Field Magic for everybody, athletes and fans.
